A CASED BRACE OF 30-BORE SILVER-MOUNTED FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOLS

With rebrowned twist polygonal barrels with signature on the top flat of the breech and with an engraved band of beadwork at the rear (the signature and band each later on one barrel), silver fore-sights (replaced), gold-lined touch-holes, finely engraved case-hardened tangs each incorporating the back-sight, finely engraved case-hardened detented locks each with roller, bevelled border, stepped tail and large blued safety-catch, the signatures each on a gold oval between engraved swags (one cock retaining screw and one top jaw and screw each replaced), figured walnut full stocks (some bruising, one repaired), swelling flat-sided butts, full silver mounts including cast and chased pierced side-plates, and engraved trigger-guards (one repaired, one bow replaced) with acorn finial, the butts each with a silver plaque cast and chased with the figure of Britannia in relief, set triggers, and wooden ramrods (one replaced): in later lined and fitted mahogany case with some accessories, the lid with flush-fitting brass carrying handle, London proof marks, one pistol with indistinct Birmingham hallmarks and silver maker's mark of Charles Freeth
