Pinocchio, 1940
A rare collection of one hundred and twenty hand-painted illustrations for French Pinocchio tradecards, circa 1950, the illustrations in pen, ink and watercolour on paper, each plate numbered sequentially (numbers 25, 37, 42, 46 and 47 missing), the majority mounted on card, each individual illustration depicting a different scene from the story and incorporating the principle characters including: Pinocchio, Geppetto, Jiminy Cricket, Figaro, Cleo, Honest John, Gideon, The Blue Fairy, Stromboli and Lampwick, all -- 3½x5in. (8.9x12.6cm.) (a lot)
