Lot Essay

This rifle is identical to the one used by Tom Hanks as Captain John Miller throughout Saving Private Ryan from the opening scenes of the D-Day landings on the beaches of Normandy through to the poignant climax at the end of the film when he is killed defending a key bridge against the Germans.
Saving Private Ryan was nominated for eleven Academy Awards, and won five includng Best Director for Stephen Spielberg.
