HIS 'SHAKY NATURE', SCHOPENHAUER, AND THE IMPORTANCE OF HARD WORK. Einstein has to be in Zurich because of a 'Zionist thing' ('wegen einer zionistischen Sache'), and proposes staying with Eduard and his divorced wife Mileva, though he won't stay long as 'it is far too unrestful there for my shaky nature'. He proposes Eduard return to Kaputh to stay with him and his second wife Elsa: he has a little house by a lake, and a wonderful new boat. Eduard's letter has troubled him by its lack of enterprise and joie de vivre, and he recommends the good effects of employment: 'Even a genius like Schopenhauer was worn down by unemployment. He didn't know it, but it was true'. Security through money is a Utopia nowadays, and this is good; one should give back to others what one has received: 'Sonst bleibt der moralische Katzenjammer nicht aus'.
