A George II giltwood and gesso cartel timepiece, circa 1755
The case carved with foliage and C-scrolls and with displayed eagle cresting, cast brass bezel with flat glass, lock lacking, the 9in. diameter silvered and engraved Roman and Arabic dial with mock pendulum to the centre and signed Maynard Torin/London, blued steel hands, the four pillar movement with triangular plates and secured to the case by a steel crossbar, single wire fusee with verge escapement -- 30in. (76cm.) high
