Lot Essay

Formerly attributed to Francesco Tironi, Antonio Morassi was the first to point to the existence of a signed version of the present composition by Fabris in Schloss Fredenburg ('Anticipazioni per il vedutista Jacopo Fabris', Arte Veneta, XX, 1966, pp. 272-82, fig. 339). Other unsigned versions include those sold, Sotheby's, New York, 1 June 1990, lot 78 ($60,500), and Christie's, London, 9 July 1993, lot 75 (£40,000), both as 'Francesco Tironi.'
