SWEERTS, Emanuel (1552-1612). Florilegium amplissimum et selectissimum, quo non, tantum varia diversorum florum praestantissimorum et nunquam antea exhibitorum genera, sed et rarae quamplurimae Indicarum plantarum, et radicum formae, ad vivum partibus duabus, quatuor etiam linguis offeruntur et delineantur. Amsterdam: J. Jansson, 1631.
2 parts in one volume, 2o (385 x 249 mm). Engraved title, engraved portrait and 110 engraved plates, containing over 550 subjects by E. Sweerts. (Light dampstaining to some plates, some plates trimmed close to the image margin.) Contemporary vellum (lightly worn). Provenance: Massachusetts Horticultural Society, Stickney Fund (bookplate, dated 1893).
Second Dutch edition. The first edition published in Frankfurt by A. Kempner in 1612, was actually a sale catalogue for plants that the author sold during the Frankfurt fair. Blunt points out, that many of the illustrations are copies from de Bry's 1611 Florilegium. Cleveland Collections 182; Nissen BBI 1921; Pritzel 9073.
