OLIVIA DE HAVILLAND BONNET FROM "THE HEIRESS"
Paramount, 1949
A tan silk bonnet adorned with olive green piping, ruffles and bows that Olivia de Havilland wore as she portrayed Catherine Sloper in the film that garnered her an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a New York Film Critics Award. Evident in two scenes; first when Montgomery Clift, as the dubious Morris Townsend, visits Catherine at her house and then at the dock when she departs for Europe, this hat has an interior stamp reading Paramount Pictures/Product of Paramount Pictures/Ladies Wardrobe and a small cloth 'Paramount' label with the handwritten notation Olivia De Havilland. Edith Head received a 'Best Costume Design' Academy Award for this noted film as well.
