Lot Essay

By the age of twelve, Lingelbach had settled with his family in Amsterdam and it is there that he must have trained as a painter, although within ten years he had moved to Rome where he remained until 1650. Much of his oeuvre shows the influence of Pieter van Laer, however his harvesting scenes, such as the present picture, reveal his debt to Philips Wouwerman.
