A French engraved gilt-brass striking giant carriage clock with chronometer escapement and remontoire

The engine-turned case with handle to chamfered top with large rectangular glazed escapement viewing glass, the silvered engine-turned dial signed Berthoud beneath XII on the chapter ring with blued steel Breguet-style hands, the centre engraved with an up-and-down sector calibrated 0 - 8, large diameter subsidiary seconds ring above, the movement with substantial brass plates secured by four conical double-screwed pillars, large escapement platform with cut bimetallic balance to pivoted detent chronometer escapement, hour strike on a gong, the going train with thirty minute remontoire mounted on the backplate
