This watercolour is similar in technique, especially in 'skying', to another watercolour formerly in the collection of Sir John and Lady Witt, Sunset off Hastings beach, see J. Witt, William Henry Hunt (1790-1864), Life and Work, with a Catalogue, London, 1982, no. 215, pl. 88. It was dated to circa 1830.
