Engraved document signed ("Abraham Lincoln") as President, countersigned by acting Secretary of the Treasury George Harrington, Washington, 7 March 1865. 1 page, oblong folio (13½ x 16 3/8 in.), bold heading "Abraham Lincoln" at top above a small vignette of an eagle flying above two sailing ships on a turbulent sea, and printed title "President of the United States of America," staining affects signature, corners missing and edges soiled and damaged from early mounting. Lincoln appoints George W. King as a second lieutenant in the Revenue Service of the United States. Revenue Service appointments signed by Lincoln are relatively uncommon.
