Mark of Samuel Kirk, Baltimore, 1830-46
Comprising a coffee pot, teapot, covered sugar bowl, cream jug and waste bowl; each baluster on a circular foot, the body and foot chased with architectural scenes, dense flowers and foliage, the angular handles with ram's heads, the coffee pot and teapot with ivory insulators, the covers with plume finial, each side with a reserve, four engraved with script monogram AHR, the cream jug engraved with a crest, the coffee pot, teapot, and waste bowl marked on foot, the sugar bowl and cream jug apparently unmarked

Lot Essay

The engraved monogram is that of Anna Hall Roosevelt, mother of Eleanor Roosevelt. The engraved crest is that of the Roosevelt family.

Lots 87-90 descended to Elliot Roosevelt, son of Eleanor and Franklin D. Roosevelt. All pieces were exhibited as part of the "Rooseveltiana Exhibit" at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts in 1961, and subsequently sold. A large group of silver from the Private Collections of Franklin & Eleanor Roosevelt and Family sold in these Rooms on February 14-15, 2001.
