New Orleans, circa 1860, maker's mark P (Crescent City Silver, p. 127)
Circular, on domed circular foot, the body and foot embossed with flowering vines, with two cast horse-head handles, the bowl centering a classical medallion to one side, with oval cartouche to one side engraved B & H Maas Ihrem O. Czarnowski, marked under base, also stamped NEW ORLEANS
13in. long over handles; 42oz.

The mark is that of Frederick R. Peters of New Orleans, working circa 1854-74.

Lot Essay

This P incuse mark relates in style to the incuse mark of Adolphe Himmel of New Orleans, and another unidentified New Orleans maker, "B". All three marks are recorded in R. McCaffrey et al., eds., Crescent City Silver, 1980, pp.125-27.
