AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE AND EARLY RED BREASTED MERGANSER HEN AND DRAKE
Gus Wilson, South Portland, Maine, second quarter 20th century
The drake's head is turned slightly to the right and the hen's head is turned completely around in a preening posture; heads are inlet into the bodies and both birds have slightly raised wing carving
Structurally excellent; the drake has a small restoration to the tail area and some in-use overpaint was professionally removed to expose the original surface; the hen has also had some overpaint removed, so that the original mostly paint is now visible, with minor overpaint remaining (2)
