Lot Essay

Francesca da Rimini was a 13th century Italian beauty, whose husband, the hunchbacked Lord Rimini, killed her and her lover, the Lord's brother, with whom Francesca had an affair. The story is immortalised in Dante's Divine Comedy and is the subject of many literary and artistic works and Tchaikovsky's symphonic poem

Peter Todd Mitchell lived in Altea in Spain from 1955-57 and frequently visited North Africa
