A large coat-of-arms in the center for Brydges, Duke of Chandos, impaling Willoughby and Middleton supported by scaly beasts, the rim with a variety of large blooms in classic Imari style
8½in. (21.6cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

Made for James Brydges, advanced to the Dukedom in 1719 and known as 'Princely Chandos'. J. Goldsmith-Phillips, China-Trade Porcelain, p. 84 calls him "one of the most notable figures of 18th century England"
