COMPARATIVE LITERATURE:
Peter Hornsby, Pewter of the Western World 1600-1850, Schiffer Publishing Ltd, 1983, plate 84.
One of a pair of lacquered chestnut urns is illustrated on page 55, plate 84. These examples are also Dutch, circa 1800, and the body also painted with Chinoiserie decoration. According to Hornsby the Chinese style of lacquered decoration of pewter was popular in Germany and Holland, and rarely used elsewhere.
