After a model by Charles Cressent, Circa 1900,
The rectangular ormolu-moulded top with rocaille-clasped corners and an inset gilt-tooled green leather writing surface, above an undulating frieze, with an inset central drawer flanked on each side by acanthus and a further short drawer, the reverse with similar apparent drawers, the shaped sides centred by a cherubic mask, on tapering espagnolette-headed legs terminating in acanthus-cast scrolled sabots
30½in. (77.5cm.) high; 72in. (82.9cm.) wide; 36in. (91.5cm.) deep

Lot Essay

The present bureau plat is based on a design by Charles Cressent, Ebéniste du Régent (d.1768). Originally executed around 1730, the lines of the legs, shape of the carcass, and general proportions were extremely modern for their time.
