Lot Essay

This work is sold with a photo-certificate from the Comité Marc Chagall, dated Paris, le 30 mai 2000 and numbered No 2 000 068.
From 1955 to 1966, Chagall worked on the Message Biblique series of paintings, which were shown in the Louvre in 1967. Moïse recevant les Tables de la Loi is the original watercolour for the lithograph of the same title, which was part of a series of one hundred and five illustrations for the Bible, which was published by Tériade, Paris, in 1956.
