Lot Essay

A London genre painter, Lidderdale exhibited at the Royal Academy, British Institution and Suffolk Street between 1851 and 1893. His subjects were mostly single figures in landscapes, especially pretty farm girls. This study is most likely for one of these single figure paintings.

For another work by this artist entitled A Scottish Vigil, see lot 63.
