Lot Essay

We are grateful to Dr. Catherine R. Puglisi for suggesting the attribution to Albani and his studio based on physical inspection (5 September 2002). She notes this is possibly one of the five known versions of the Albani composition of the same subject. The recognized principal version, also on copper as the present lot, being in the Musée Fabre, Montpellier (see C. Puglisi, Francesco Albani, New Haven and London, p. 134, no. 46 and 46.LV.b).
