A Naples (Real Fabbrica Ferdinandea) black-ground Etruscan two-handled ecuelle and cover
Circa 1790
The gilt double-scroll handles with draped clasp terminals, the body painted in orange and black with scantily draped classical figures dancing, with instruments, torches, shields and spurs above a band of rading gilt gadroons, the interior gilt with a central roundel and flowerheads within a border of stylised husks and anthemion, the shallow domed cover similarly enamelled about a richly gilt putto and panther finial (some very slight wear to gilt gadroons, one handle broken and restored, cover with small restored rim chip and minute restored rim chip, some very slight wear to rim, finial with partial loss of one rein from putto's right hand)
