A Paris (Feuillet) portrait cabinet-cup and saucer
Circa 1820, the cup with gilt Feuillet, incised G and b (?), the saucer with black enamel Feuillet
The cup with a gilt acanthus scroll handle, the oviform body finely painted with Lady Elizabeth Stuart wearing a feathered hat edged with pearls, a pearl necklace and a white dress with a large pearl brooch, within an oval gilt band cartouche against a blue ground with yellow fleur de lys behind a band of elaborate Gothic arches, a gilt band with raised meandering ivy below, the flared rim, waisted foot and the interior richly gilt, the centre of the saucer painted, gilded and silvered with a coat-of-arms surrounded by Lady Elizabeth Stuart in raised Gothic type within two circular gilt bands, one with ivy, the border with a continuous band of similar arches within a gilt band rim (area of slight wear to footrim of cup and rim of saucer, saucer with three short cracks to underside from rim)
The cup 5 3/8 in. (13.7 cm.) high

Lot Essay

The sitter is almost certainly the same Lady Elizabeth who was the Duke of Wellington's sister-in-law, Lady Elizabeth Pakenham who married Henry Stewart of Trycallon in 1793. It's also very possible that Lady Elizabeth could have been in Paris at the same time as the Duke.
