A Meissen allegorical group
Circa 1740, blue crossed swords mark
Modelled with a youthful Bacchus seated astride a barrel and scantily clad with a lion pelt, holding a cup in his raised right hand, a putto kneeling at his feet filling wine bottles from the barrel, the reverse with a scantily clad nymph reclining on a rock and picking fruit from a large basket, a putto playfully riding a goat nearby, on a shaped triangular scroll-moulded base enriched with gilding and applied with coloured foliage and a tambourine (Bacchus's fingers holding the cup restuck, nymph's right toes restored, putto's small finger lacking, the other with small chip to ankle, minute chipping to foliage)
