Lot Essay

According to the artist, in a letter dated 6 April 1969, the present work depicts the road from Provo, Utah to Durango, Colorado. The original letter from the artist discussing the work and his trips out West accompanies the lot.

This work will be included in the forthcoming Thomas Hart Benton catalogue raisonné being prepared by the Thomas Hart Benton Catalogue Raisonné Foundation.
