Lot Essay

Henry Tobin of Leeds is recorded to have supplied a large number of fire-side pieces for Edward Lascelles, 1st Earl of Harewood (d. 1820) for Harewood House, Yorkshire. His stamp is recorded on a fire-stove and on an almost identical set of fire-irons both supplied for Newby Hall, Yorkshire (C. Gilbert & A. Wells-Cole, The Fashionable Fireplace 1660-1840, Leeds, 1985, p. 32, no. 27).
