An Italian specimen marble low table, 19th century
The rectangular moulded top with a central Jasper cabochon within a cartouche of brocatello di Spagna with a heart-shaped leaf at either end and with a polychrome palmette on a nero antico background, the outset corners of alabastro fiorito framed by a strapwork border with lapis lazuli and other marble cabochons, on a red brecchia background within a cippolino rosso moulded edge, on a later composite lion monopodia stand -- 17in. (43.2cm.) high, 42in. (106.7cm.) wide, 62in. (157.5cm.) long

Probably the Earl's of Clarendon, The Grove, Watford, Hertfordshire, Thence by descent to Gerald Hyde-Villiers (d. 1953), Egham, Surrey Given by the above to the father of the present owner

A table top of related pattern, acquired in 1881 by the South Kensington Museum, now the Victoria & Albert Museum, is supported on a frame bearing the Odescalchi arms (Museum no 57-1881)
