FIRST EDITION. One of the earliest works by an English writer concerning the apparatus for the raising of water, and perhaps the first attempt at the classification and analysis of such machines. BMC dates this first edition (distinguished by the undated title-page) to 1659; Wing dates it to 1660. The book was reissued by Henry Brome with a title dated 1660. RARE: no copies appear in ABPC for at least thirty years. Wing E-494.
