A SELECTIVE OFFERING OF THE CELLAR FROM A PASSIONATE CONNOISSEUR
Property of a Bay Area Collector
Having only recently made the aquaintance of this highly passionate and youthful collector I am impressed by the pace at which he has acquired invaluable tasting experiences, notably of the most famous wine and vintages. Three cellars house case quantities of Bordeaux 1945s, 1961s, 1982s, 1990s, 1995s as well as extensive verticals of Vega Sicilia Unico and Mouton Rothschild. The desire to eventually acquire only the most important wines is very central to our client's passion... dare I say addiction?
The following is but a sprinkle of the gems ageing quietly in this cellar. Viewing the cellar itself, an immaculate, state-of-the-art, custom-built temple of wine, is only surpassed by the ocean view off the balcony of the home it is built into. At all times, ideal storage conditions of 55 degress and 70 percent humidity are maintained and backed up by basement generators.
With the kind generosity of my host several Burgundy and Bordeaux were sampled from this cellar, all in excellent condition.

Château Lafite-Rothschild--Vintage 1961
Pauillac, 1er cru classé
Levels: Into neck or better. One bottle opened from this stock revealed fully branded vintage cork. Thought to be recondition by the Château circa late 1980s, early 1990s.
Tasting note from this stock: Excellent color, impression is that of a 25 year or so old wine. Silky texture. Persistant and evolved bouquet of tobacco & minerals. Lively and youthful palate. Fresh, yet evolved fruit complexities. Finished with good grip and acidity. 2-3 hours aeration allowed for greater expression of wine's personality. Surprising impact if given time to breathe. ST
Recent note, March 1999: "The level was excellent, into the neck. An attractive, rich, convincing colour with perfect gradation from the bowl of the glass to its rim. It was poured and tasted at 8pm, ripeness and bottle age noted. Exactly 30 minutes later it had gained complexity and a rich, spicy 'biscuity' bouquet. It had the sweetness of fully ripe grapes and alcohol, a mouthfilling flavor, very good tannins and acidity. Complete." MB Vintage Wine
