Lot Essay

Giuseppe Canella was known for his panoramic views of Rome, Paris and Madrid. He also painted scenes of ports and this lot has what appears to be his characteristic colouring and interest in detail. Due to the variety of nationalities of flags on the ships and the walled architecture it is thought to be a depiction of old Valletta harbour.
