Lot Essay

Monfort was a pupil of Vernet who painted the original 'Les adieuses de Napoléon au Château de Fontainebleau.' This lot is a copy after this work and shows General Petit embracing the Emperor Napoléon surrounded by his elite troops in the courtyard of the Château.
