Three bottlings of Pétrus 1947

Unsurprisingly manificent...Incredibly sweet though so full-bodied that the alcohol was positively burning. High extract, with tannin and acidity. I hate to be condescending but this is not my style of wine. Perhaps just as well as one has to be a millionaire to buy it. Though I have to admit noting a perfect magnum at the Eisengatz tasting. Last noted in May 1993.

Three Vandermeulen bottlings, first in 1977, sound but missing the fat of the château-bottling, then twice in Paris...A magnificent, powerful, mouthfilling bottle at the tasting...At best *****. MB, Vintage Wine
