Château Cheval-Blanc--Vintage 1926
Saint-Emilion, 1er grand cru classé (A)
Château bottled
Levels: three very top, one top and two upper shoulder; two faded and four missing labels. Vintage confirmed on cork
One of the greatest wines I have ever tasted, preferred to the 21 even the 29, and, dare I say it, the 47. At any rate it was when I first tasted it in 1967, lunching at Berry Bros. Although not deep in colour, mahogany tinged, it was the most complete, the richest, certainly the sweetest and most harmonious wine imaginable. Two bottles had been decanted for four hours before serving. I could not believe it was from Bordeaux and, rather rudely, took my glass to the window overlooking St. Jamess Street to have a better look at the colour, to concentrate on the honeyed nose and rich taste. I thought it was a great Buyrgundy. More good notes in the 1970s. More recently, showing well, a magnum, delicate and fading but with finesse and great length ***** It should still be good. MB. Vintage Wine
