Château Cheval-Blanc--Vintage 1953
Saint-Emilion, 1er grand cru classé (A)
Lot aaa levels: two very top, three top and one upper shoulder; bin soiled labels. Lot bbb levels: five top and one just below top shoulder. Lot ccc levels: one bottom neck, one very top, two top, one just below top, three upper and four mid shoulder; three soiled and three deteriorating labels, one bottle recorked in 1991
Basically, and should have been predictably, a charmer though not all were Chaeau bottled and not all - though most - in good condition. A superb bottle at Wolf's vertical in 1997: never very deeply coloured, a soft, mellow brick red with shades of ruby; the sort of fragrance that can't wait. Mocha, a touch of lime blossom; a most lovely wine with perfectly integrated component parts. Light in style and only 12 alcohol. At best ***** MB, Vintage Wine
