BIBLE, in English -- The Old [New] Testament, embellished with Engravings, from Pictures and Designs by the most Eminent English Artists, London: Printed for Thomas Macklin by Thomas Bensley, 1800. 7 volumes, 2° (462 x 375mm). Half titles, engraved frontispiece, dedication, list of subscribers, text in double column, 69 engraved plates by W. Artaud, William Hamilton, Angelica Kauffman, P. J. de Loutherbourg, John Opie, Joshua Reynolds, Thomas Stothard and others, vignettes. (One plate detached and a few leaves heavily spotted in vol. I, occasional light spotting and browning.) Finely-bound in contemporary straight-grained crimson morocco to an elaborate neo-classical design in gilt and blind, spines gilt in compartments, gilt edges, watered silk liners (a few strips worn, extremities rubbed).
