VERGILIUS MARO, Publius (70-19 B.C.). Antiquissimi Virgiliani codicis fragmenta et picturae ec bibliotheca Vaticana, Rome: apud Piedem Marmoreum, 1741. 2° (411 x 286mm). Engraved title, 57 full-page illustrations and 4 smaller ones, historiated initial. (Lightly spotted.) Contemporary calf, wide floral border on covers, spine lettered gilt in two compartments the others decorated in gilt, marbled edges. Provenance: James Harris (1709-80), English scholar, who published Art and Happiness (1744) and Hermes (1751) (8-line inscription in Latin, stating that the book was a gift from James Harris). Brunet V, 1291: "Belle édition".
