Made up of twelve hand-coloured printed gores and two polar calottes, the equatorial graduated in degrees, hours and minutes, the ecliptic graduated in degrees with sigils for the houses of the Zodiac, and days of the month, the Greenwich meridian ungraduated, the equinoctial colure graduated in degrees, the oceans showing an analemma and lines of magnetic variation, with numerous notes such as SOCIETY ISLANDS Volcanic Lofty & fertile Inhabt. brown handsome & gentle mostly Christ., Antarctica with mostly projected coastline and labelled SUPPOSED ANTARCTIC CONTINENT, the continents with nation states variously outlined and delicately shaded in colour and well-detailed showing rivers, mountains, towns and cities, with stamped brass hour dial and meridian circle, in a mahogany stand, the papered horizon showing degrees of amplitude and azimuth, compass directions, days of the month and days of the houses of the Zodiac, edged in red and raised on four curved quadrant supports to a baluster-turned central pillar with three inswept legs terminating in castors, supporting between them the glazed compass case with engraved paper showing a thirty-two point wind rose and degrees 0-360 and in four quadrants, with blued-steel needle
