BURLEY, WALTER (1275-?1345). De vita et moribus philosophorum (South-German incomplete recension). [Nuremberg: Anton Koberger, not after 1473].
Chancery 2° (305 x 205mm). Collation: [16 2-910 108] (1/1 blank, 1/2r subject index, 2/1r author index, 2/2r text, 10/5-8 blank). 93 (of 94, without final blank) leaves. 31 lines. Type: 2:115G. 2- to 6-line initials in red or blue, red paragraph marks, capital strokes, and foliation. (Very light marginal dampstaining in first quire, a few small wormholes in final two quires.) Contemporary South-German red-stained deerskin over bevelled wooden boards, sides tooled to a saltire design with rosettes at intersections and outer border of repeated 'maria' (upper cover) or fleur-de-lis (lower cover) tools (not in Kyriss or Schwenke-Sammlung), single brass fore-edge catchplate retained on upper cover, later paper spine label (worn, front pastedown renewed). Provenance: 17th-century bibliographical note written on 2/2r -- stamp removed from first page.
