Koike Shoko was born in Beijing, China. She received an advanced degree in ceramics from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1969 and established her kiln in Tama, Tokyo. Among her one-person exhibitions at Tokyo galleries are those at Gallery Koyanagi in 1992, 1994 and 1999 and at Kandori, Tokyo, in 1988 and 1990. In the 1990s she was included in group ceramic exhibitions in New York City, in addition to group exhibitions at the major department store venues in Japan and at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo. She was represented in Modern Japanese Ceramics in American Collections, an exhibition that traveled in 1993-94 to the Japan Society Gallery, New York, the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Honolulu Academy of Arts. Her sculpture is often based upon sea shell forms.
