No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VA… Read more JAMES MCMULLAN A small and intelligent half-back with unsurpassed passing skills, McMullan was born in Denny, Stirling on 26th March 1895. His career began with Denny Hibernian then Third Lanark before moving to Partick Thistle in 1913. He joined Manchester City in 1926 and helped them gain promotion to Divison 1 in 1929 and played in two F.A.Cup finals being a runner-up on both ocassions. Described as a great captain for club and country, he skippered the immortal Wembley Wizards who defeated England 5-1 at Wembley in 1928 (see lot 33). He retired from playing the game in 1933 and took up managerial posts at Oldham Athletic; Aston Villa, the club's first; Notts County; and Sheffield Wednesday.
