Lot Essay

This dramatic and rare group derives from a larger composition called Les Chasse aux Ours. The original dates from 1838 and includes a horse, rider and huntsman. The present group and a related group entitled Ours terrassé were initially conceived as parts of a surtout de table for the Duc d'Orleans.

Another example of this model sold Sotheby's London, 5 July 2000, lot 153 (£15,000)
