Related 'picturesque' patterns for rustic columned 'girandole' pier-glasses with foliated branches were published in Thomas Johnson's Collection of Designs, 1758 and Thomas Chippendale's Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director, 1754. This pair have flower-festooned and pagoda-swept crestings and watery grotto-like brackets as featured in 'Girandole' patterns in William Ince and John Mayhew's Universal System of Household Furniture, 1762, pl. LXX.
