The swivelling substage concave mirror is fixed to the pillar beneath this. The pillar is attached via a compass joint to one end of the box, which contains various accessories including: two unnumbered objective lenses which can be fitted separately or together, via a short connecting brass tube; two eyepiece attachments with three eyepiece lenses; a lens that can be inserted within the body tube; a hand-held magnifier on a short pierced brass sleeve, an unconnected [?]eyepiece lens, a live-box; and two lignum vitae sliders each with four cells, four of the eight in total with insect specimens. The box has dark brown velvet lining on the fittings and a brass key escutcheon (the key is missing).
