The key of gilt metal, the top consisting of cypher EAR within an open rococo surround surmounted by the crown, the shank chased, working end of open form (slightly defective); and a set of Bavarian key tassels (somewhat defective)

Lot Essay

The Hanoverian cypher is that of King Ernst Augustus (a younger son of George III) who succeeded his brother William IV in 1837, since under Salic Law, Queen Victoria could not inherit the throne of Hanover. The Bavarian tassels date from the period 1886-1913 when there was a Regency
