With a realistically modelled double barrel shot-gun, the butt set with rose cut diamonds and applied with a duck in flight with pave set rose cut diamond body and wings and a ruby eye, marked "ROWLANDS", 15 carat yellow gold and silver

John R Rowlands established a jewellery business in 1883 Queen Street, Melbourne, he exhibited in the 1879 Sydney International exhibtion and the 1880 Melbourne International exhibition where his work received much praise. He moved the business several times to Collins Street, the firm closed in 1930
