Dated 1894-1895, iron-red and green printed marks, signed KALT
Each of oviform with flaring cylindrical neck decorated as gathered drapery above bands of blue flowerheads on a trellis and vermiculé ground, centering a broad band of exotic flowering and fruiting vine entwined around two green ribbons and edged to resemble fabric, the lower body with interlaced C-scrolls suspending tassels, within gilt line rims, on black painted stands

Lot Essay

André Constant Kalt fils, was a modeller and repairer at Sèvres from 1858-62; 1867-90; and then as a decorator in 1890-95. Recorded in the archive is such a pair of vases entering the magasin de vente in October 1895, 'Pâte nouvelle; prix de vente 2,200 francs chaque' and in Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres, Archives, Registre Vv11, folio 36, no. 13.
