Lot Essay

"Pablo had done a lithograph of one of his pigeons in a highly unconventional way. The background coat was in black lithographic ink and the pigeon itself had been painted on top of that in white gouache. When Mourlot came to the rue des Grands-Augustins and saw what Pablo had done he said 'How do you expect us to print that it's not possible.' 'You give it to Mr. Tutin; he'll know how to handle it.' Pablo told him."
