A ZAND POLYCHROME LACQUER WOODEN CASKET
Iran, second half 18th century
Of rectangular form with hinged cover, the top and sides with elaborately worked gul-o bulbul designs on a cream ground including a wide variety of different flowers, in borders of gold flowers on a deep burgundy ground, the cover also with wider borders of black floral cartouches, the reverse painted with stylised tortoiseshell motifs, the underside plain red, the interior recently velvet lined, slight damages to extremities
