WESTERN HAN DYNASTY (206 BC - AD 8)

The elongated ovoid body is crisply cast with tightly scrolling bands of intertwined dragons, divided by raised bands of braided rope elements repeated around the foot, the neck with upright triangular scrollwork blades below a further dragon band around the mouth rim, flanked on the sloping shoulders with a pair of taotie masks suspending loose rings, the slightly domed cover with a central ruyi medallion encircled by a band of angular 'S'-curls spaced with three circular knops
